Project Double Play is a service project created by 12 year old Bakersfield native Richard (Richie)Young IV. Realizing the need for improved baseball equipment in impoverished communities, Richie reached out to his younger brothers baseball club, Bakersfield Black Gold. The founders of Black Gold unanimously agreed to fully support the project.
The first collection of used baseball equipment took place at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Winter Baseball Camp. With the help of several Black Gold volunteers and Mentors Moving, the collection was a huge success. Items collected are soon to be delivered into the hands of youth baseball players outside of the United States.
Future collections are in the works with different regions of the world lined up to receive the generous donations brought forth from our community.
